Firmin Archambault (Olivier DL Philippe) was born in France in 1976. From an early age, he had already discovered his passion for music and became a self-taught guitarist. Today, Firmin is perfecting his craft under the tutelage of the renowned guitarist, Kim Yong Tae, while also studying analysis and composition with the distinguished composer, Ippo Tsuboi. Apart from his fondness of music, Firmin also loves the instrument’s craftmanship. He has equipped his own atelier and is currently building his first guitar.
Firmin came to Japan in 2000, and holds a doctorate degree in medical sciences from the Graduate School of Medicine of Tokyo University. His personal experience as an immigrant birthed a nuanced awareness of the precarious status and discrimination that being an immigrant often entails. He became an activist for foreigner rights in Japan and collaborates with the Labor Union National Union of General Workers Tokyo Nambu and the NPO Solidarity Network with Migrants Japan.
